A series of 81 never-before-seen photographs by the emerging Madrid-born artist will be on show in Signature Suite at Hotel Arts Barcelona.
The exhibition will be held from January to April 2023 and invites guests to experience Barcelona’s urban environment through the artist’s unique lens.
Offering more than 180 square metres of refined comfort and impressive views of the Mediterranean coast from the 30th floor of Hotel Arts Barcelona, the Arts Suite by We Collect was established in September 2022 as part of the iconic hotel’s mission to create a platform for emerging artists to showcase their art. From January to April 2023, works by Madrid-born artist Beatriz Dubois will be displayed in the newly established space, which is also one of the hotel’s two signature suites, to officially open the 2023 season.
Known as an advocate for contemporary art and artists in the city, Hotel Arts Barcelona will continue to partner with Madrid-based art gallery, We Collect, in 2023 in the spirit of absolute continuity and with a goal of demonstrating that art is a living thing that transforms the people who stand before it, depending on the environment in which they are observing it.
Following the success of Romain Blanck’s intervention last year, this creative collaboration presents a Photography Exhibition by Beatriz Dubois.
The Arts Suite by We Collect provides the extraordinary experience of sleeping in an art gallery to help guests transcend the merely aesthetically pleasing in order to discover a common thread between the space and the creations: first of Blanck, and beginning in January, of Dubois. The next two shows are already in the works with artists Carla Fuentes and Ramón Muñoz planning their respective exhibitions which are scheduled for 2023.
From January to April 2023, only guests who book the Arts Suite by We Collect will have the opportunity to live amongst the never-before-seen work of Dubois, as part of a show comprised of a series of 81 photographs taken as the artist commuted from her studio to Hotel Arts Barcelona. The subject is a six-kilometre path that inspired the photographer to create a record of displacement expressed through de-contextualised images which acquire a shared essence, relating her work to materiality as well as the significance of the environment and of Barcelona.
The artist, born in Madrid in 1991, uses photography as the basis of her work, and paper as a foundation for analogue collages and compositions. Her work reflects on topics such as the individual’s relationship with nature, the search for one’s own identity, the way in which humans relate with the outside world and with themselves, and the leisurely contemplation of art in the face of the massive consumption of images.
In parallel with the private exhibition, Dubois will also exhibit Manos para Montaña, a collection of five works of collage woven together with photographs that will be exhibited in the gallery which is located in the lobby of Hotel Arts Barcelona and is open to the public.
