United Airlines (UAL) resumed its first nonstop service to and from Hong Kong on March 6, 2023, marking the airline’s first passenger flight service out of the city since the start of the pandemic. United’s daily nonstop service from Hong Kong (HKG) to San Francisco (SFO) directly connects Hong Kong travelers to the airline’s largest hub airport on the U.S. West Coast, and numerous cities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Latin America vis its hub.
On March 6 at the departure gate of United flight UA862 at the Hong Kong International Airport, Walter Dias, regional director of Sales for Greater China and Southeast Asia, and Consul General Gregory May of the U.S. Consulate celebrated the return of the San Francisco nonstop service to Hong Kong by making remarks before passengers boarded the flight.
Walter Dias, United’s regional director of sales for Greater China, Korea and Southeast Asia, said, “This year United is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Hong Kong and we’re thrilled to be able to return to this important market. We very much look forward to welcoming Hong Kong customers on our HKG-SFO service again. Customers traveling from Hong Kong to the U.S. will find convenient, easy connections at our San Francisco hub to more than 70 destinations in the mainland U.S., Canada and Latin America. We also look forward to bringing our loyal customers in North America to the vibrant city of Hong Kong!”
Consul Gregory May of the U.S. Consulate said, “We see the relaunch of United Airlines’ non-stop service to San Francisco as a tremendous step forward in the recovery of U.S. airline service to Hong Kong after a challenging three years. In the months ahead, we are eager to welcome more visitors from Hong Kong and connect passengers from across the Asia Pacific region to the United States.”
