A record visitor spending in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported that in 2022 total economic output from visitor spending hit a record $79.3 billion, a 24.7% increase from the previous record year, 2019.

The annual Southern Nevada Tourism Industry Economic Impact Report outlines the economic impacts associated with the region’s tourism industry and business travel, including visitor spending on rooms, restaurants, shopping, sports, local transportation, and other activities and amenities.

Las Vegas as a tourist destination has seen dramatic growth in recent years with the addition of new resort properties, expanded convention and meeting space, professional sports teams, and new venues such as, for example, Allegiant Stadium.

Following the disproportionate impacts suffered by tourist destinations like Las Vegas during the pandemic, Las Vegas has demonstrated a strong rebound as a hotspot for pent-up travel demand.

Visitor spending in 2022 hit a record high of $44.9 billion, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Total visitor spending in 2022 exceeded the previous year by 24.4% and the 2019 total by 21.8%.

The report also notes that Southern Nevada’s tourism industry remained the region’s largest employer in 2022, directly employing approximately 229,440 people.

With direct and indirect impacts included, total impacts reached approximately 358,880, an increase of 21.3% over the previous year.

The tourism authority is pleased to see not only the strong rebound in visitors number but also the significant impact visitors have on the state’s economy overall.
