No more Strikes in Germany

It has become unpredictable to travel to, from, within and through Germany. Is the announcement Saturday night the end of this worry?

After eight months of unpredictable strikes at Germany’s airports, and train services, a compromise has been reached.

Just 4 days ago eTurboNews warned readers of new strikes last week .

Those 2.5 million people working in the German transportation service can expect a payment of EURO 3,000.00 each for inflation adjustment.

In addition, salaries will increase on a step-by-step basis in 2024.

This is a victory for those working in public service on a federal or regional level in Germany.

Leaders from both sides met in Potsdam Saturday and came to this compromise.

Union Verdi Spokesperson Frank Wernecke said this was the highest salary increase for his sector since World War II.

A payment of EURO 3000.00 per worker is scheduled for June 2023, and salary increases of 5.5% with a minimum of EURP 340.00 is scheduled starting in March 2024.

Interior minister Nancy Faeser said this was a fair compromise in tough times. It will cost the federal government about 4.95 billion euros.

Even though the compromise was being worked out in Potsdam, strikes continue at the airport in Baden, and Berlin Brandenburg still has not taken back its plans to proceed with a full cancellation of all flights on Monday.
