Most of the visitors to the Austrian capital came from Germany in April. As a result, sales increased by 148 percent compared to the previous year.
Tourism in Vienna is booming. In April, the number of overnight stays almost returned to pre-Corona levels. With 1.5 million overnight stays, the federal capital reached 95 percent of the volume in 2019. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 41 percent. Since the beginning of the year, Vienna has recorded 4.5 million overnight stays, an increase of 79 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
Sales also rise to pre-Corona levels
In April, most of the visitors came from Germany. With 345,000 overnight stays, the number was 1.3 percent above the pre-pandemic level. Behind Germany were domestic guests (261,000), Italians (89,000), and tourists from the USA (72,000). In April, a total of 69,100 hotel beds were available. Bed occupancy from January to April was 44.5 percent (2022: 28.3 percent), and at the same time, room occupancy was 56 percent (2022: 36 percent).
Vienna also managed to jump above pre-Corona levels in terms of sales. In March, net overnight stays amounted to 71.3 million euros, 5.7 percent more than in March 2019 and 89 percent more than in March 2022. From January to March, 188.5 million euros in tourism revenues were generated, 148 percent more than the previous year.
