Culinary Seminar in Crete to show Biodiversity and Gastronomy

Explore Crete’s magnificent countryside and historic sites with a resident specialist.

Cook local recipes with award-winning resident chefs and savor traditional cuisine in tranquil villages. Presentations on the history of Cretan cuisine, the Mediterranean Diet, agroecology, herbal medicine, and more. Space is limited to 12 attendees. Advance registration is required.

Crete’s Culinary Sanctuaries Educational Network was formed in 1997 by Nikki Rose, a Greek-American writer, seminar director, and pro chef, to support residents working hard to protect and share their heritage.

CCS teachers include archaeologists, botanists, herbalists, agro-ecologists, organic farmers, heirloom seed savers, chefs, and musicians. Over 3,000 university students, teachers, doctors, chefs, and journalists have attended CCS-accredited seminars.

Nikki Rose said, “Our seminar attendees gain knowledge that can enrich their lives and careers. Experiencing the cultural and natural wonders of Crete can inspire new ideas, such as supporting nature conservation, local businesses, organic farmers, and enjoying fresh regional food.”

CCS is an award-winning program for Best Practices in Sustainable Tourism, featured in National Geographic publications, The New York Times, NPR, International Institute for Peace and Sustainable Tourism, IFOAM-Organics, Agroecology Europe, Archaeology Magazine, Routledge Handbooks, Food Tank, ECOCLUB, and the World Travel and Tourism Council. Nikki is the author of “Crete: The Roots of the Mediterranean Diet” and an adviser on similar initiatives around the world.

Their upcoming documentary, Heritage Protectors, is a continuation of their work.
