Bollywood actress Kajol found herself at the centre of controversy when her statements about Indian politicians and their perceived lack of vision for the country’s future became widely circulated online. Kajol clears the air on controversial “uneducated Indian leaders” statement; says, “My intention was not to demean any political leader”

On Saturday, Kajol took to Twitter and wrote, “I was merely making a point about education and its importance. My intention was not to demean any political leaders, we have some great leaders who are guiding the country on the right path.”

For the unversed, during an interview with The Quint, Kajol expressed her belief that having knowledgeable and well-educated leaders is crucial for the progress and development of a nation.  She had said, “Change, especially in a country like India, is slow. It is very, very slow. Because we are steeped in our traditions and steeped in our thought processes and, of course, it has to do with education.” Kajol further added, “You have political leaders who do not have an educational system background. I’m sorry, but I’m going to go out and say that. I’m being ruled by leaders, so many of them, who do not have that viewpoint, which I think education does give you, at least the chance to look out for a different viewpoint.”

At present, Kajol is receiving acclaim for her role in Lust Stories 2, a recent release on Netflix. In the anthology, she appeared in Amit Sharma’s short film alongside Kumud Mishra. The remaining three short films were directed by Konkona Sensharma, R Balki, and Sujoy Ghosh. Additionally, Kajol is starring in the show The Trial, alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Sheeba Chaddha, and Kubbra Sait. The Trial, it is a Hindi adaptation of the American political-legal drama, The Good Wife. The series will start streaming on the OTT platform from July 14 onwards.
