According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism’s Directorate of Sector Analysis and Promotion, Colombia welcomed 375,409 foreign visitors in May. This is more than the same month in 2022, 2021, and 2019.
The data show that Colombia is becoming a more popular destination for global tourists. Specifically, there was a 10.4 percent increase in May 2023 compared to May 2022, which recorded 340,060 visitors. The growth was even more significant than in May 2019, a 15 percent increase from 326,344 visitors.
From January to May 2023, Colombia welcomed 2,249,411 foreign visitors, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2019 and a 36.7% increase against the same period in 2022. The number comprises 1,602,121 non-resident foreigners, 416,005 Colombians living abroad who visited the country, and 231,285 cruise ship passengers.
The United States continues to be the country’s main source market with the highest number of Colombia visitors, with 414,893 visitors from January to May, followed by Ecuador with 115,432 and Mexico with 112,769.
