Five Mexican Tourists Dead in Nepal Helicopter Crash

Six people including Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung and five Mexican nationals were aboard the aircraft, according to Raju Neupane, operation and safety manager of Manang Air.

The helicopter has crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal. Reports said earlier that contact with the Manang Air helicopter, which took off from Surki in the Solukhumbu district bound for the Nepal capital Kathmandu, was lost 15 minutes after its departure on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipak Shrestha, the District Police Chief, informed that the police have established the identities of the deceased.

Nepal has a history of air crashes, including the worst in 30 years in January.

In 2019 Nepal’s tourism minister died in a helicopter crash.

Helicopters are supported by Turbomeca 2D1 engines, especially for high-altitude performance maintained by specialized manpower and 100 percent quality maintenance with accident-free flying hours.

Manang Air provides adventure flights, search and rescue, medical evacuation, aerial work, helicopter excursions, expedition work, and other customized flights as per the requirement of the clients.

The area of operations of the Company is not only restricted to personalized services but includes an operation to support trekkers and pilgrims. The company offers air Logistics support to various government agencies in Nepal.
