Mauritius Tourism to revisit Vanilla Island Marketing Concept?

A Mauritius Tourism expert pushes to revisit at the Vanilla Tourism Promotion concept for a new marketing approach.

Dr Vanessa Gaitree Bheekhoo Gowreessunkar, a tourism expert on Mauritius has come out strongly to advocate the need for the island a relook at the Vanilla Islands concept.

He published a comprehensive study alongside Maximiliano Korstanje (Argentian) and Shem Wambugu Maingi (Kenyan), which stated that Mauritius forms part of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Island Group alongside Seychelles, Reunion, Madagascar, Comoros, and Mayotte Islands.

The driving force for the original founding of the Vanilla Islands was former tourism minister Alain St. Ange from Seychelles.

“This concept needed to be embraced”, he said.

When St. Ange left Vanilla Island concept started operating in a low-key approach and reduced speed.

Dr Vanessa Gaitree Bheekhoo Gowreessunkar, said that Mauritius offers more than beaches and some cultural attractions.

In his book “Tourism in Crisis,” he stated that Mauritius needed to push forward the concept of good governance, saying that too often, tourism enterprises were subject to a cartel of personalities.

Dr. Vanessa Gaitree Bheekhoo Gowreessunkar said that Mauritius could also seek the assistance of the UNWTO as has been done by several other countries.

The global tourism crisis is ongoing according to Dr. Gowreessunkar. The world was experiencing a mutation of the tourism industry.

The CEO of Vanilla Islands is Pascal Viroleau based in Reunion, France. According to St. Ange commitment, even when it comes to the rotating chairmanship in the organization has become difficult. It needs a strong relaunch.
