The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) announced that charter flights from Taiwan have been extended through the end of July. The flights are being operated by Starlux Airlines on an Airbus A321neo and have been arriving to Guam every five days with about 177 passengers.
The original 22 charter flights were supposed to end June 28, but eight more flights were added to meet summer travel demand. A total of 30 charters have the potential to bring more than 5,300 Taiwanese visitors from April 1 – July 31.
GVB is also supporting the charter flights by working with travel agent Lion Travel as well as local restaurants to offer added value to travel packages. Participating local restaurants include Meskla Chamoru Fusion Bistro, Three Squares by B&G Pacific, Pika’s Café and Little Pika’s.
“This is great news for re-establishing our foothold in the Taiwan market.”
GVB Vice President Gerry Perez added: “We hope these charter flights can pivot airlines to resume direct service between Taiwan and Guam. This market has proven to be very viable and has strong spending power to aid us in our road to recovery.”
According to GVB statistics, Taiwan was Guam’s third largest market with more than 28,000 visitors that came to the island in Fiscal Year 2019. They are by far the top spenders of Guam’s visitor markets, with prepaid and on-island expenditures exceeding more than $2,000 per person.
Taiwan media on island
More than 30 Taiwanese media representatives are also on island for five days to explore Guam’s current offerings and cover tourism recovery efforts. The visiting group also interacted with Guam’s local media at a welcome greeting Sunday night in the Hyatt Regency hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam (TECO) and GVB. Earth Day Beach Cleanup
Additionally, TECO and GVB are teaming up for an Earth Day beach cleanup at Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Park (Ypao Beach) on April 22 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. This is the third time the two organizations have co-hosted this event. Water, coffee, gloves, and trash bags will be provided. The first 250 volunteers will receive limited souvenirs.
