Going to OGG, LIH, FLL, MCO, PBI?

Eager Americans are booking trips to national parks, northern beaches, great lakes, and other destinations closed during the winter.

According to research conducted by Airports AirHelp, some airports are likely to have problems with flight disruptions.

Based on “flight disruptions” from airports with 1,000+ flights in March 2023, Maui Kahului Airport (OGG) for the second month had delays and issues with 35.51% of all flights.

This was followed by Lihue Airport on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii had 35.18% of all flights disrupted in March.

This was followed by Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida (FLL) with 34.96% of flights disrupted.

Orlando International Airport (MCO): followed by 34.69% due to the increase in vacations to Disney World during Spring Break.

Palm Beach International Airport (PBI): 34.63% of flights disrupted

The states of Florida and Hawaii were impacted more than all other US States. Both Hawaii and Florida are trendy Spring Break destinations for East and west coast vacationers, and the airports felt the burden of this increased foot traffic.

Based on this travelers flying to Hawaii should brace for ongoing disruptions. Nearly all of Hawaii’s major airports had over 28% of flights canceled.

HNL (Honolulu) and KOA (Kona International) had 30.29% and 28.66% of flights canceled, respectively

In Alaska, the flying world looks different. Stevens Anchorage International Airport handled 81.27% of their flights without trouble.

Passengers planning to travel to New York should use LaGuardia airport. LGA processed 76.94% of their flights without disruption, while Newark Liberty International (EWR) and John. F. Kennedy International (JFK) struggled, with 30.92% and 30.84% of the flights disrupted, respectively.

East Coasters can hit North or South Carolina, where Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (84.45%) and Piedmont Triad International Airport (83.9%) were the country’s two most reliable airports last month.

West Coasters can count on Spokane International Airport and Portland International Airport (82.08%) for reliable travel.
