Govt constructing 8642 houses in J&K, 7000 to be completed by March 2018

Jammu : Construction of houses for Homeless people of Jammu & Kashmir is going on in full swing in the State under the centrally sponsored scheme- Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY-G) which aims at providing ‘Houses for All’ by 2022 in the country.
Jammu and Kashmir has been assigned a target of 7000 houses which are to be completed by the end of March, 2018. Against the total target as many as 8642 houses are already under construction in almost all the Districts of the State.
Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, J&K, Abdul Haq launched the scheme on Public Financial Management System (PFMS) on 11 September, 2017 and an amount of Rs 43 Crores has been disbursed to 8642 beneficiaries through PFMS. Under the Scheme, the funds are directly transferred from the state account to the beneficiary’s account through PFMS without any third party intervention or loss of time ensuring transparency and efficiency in the disbursement of the payments.
The Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Nirmal Sharma (IAS) briefing about the progress of the scheme said the department is already working on construction of 8642 houses and will complete the target of 7000 houses by the end of March, 2018.
She said under the scheme financial assistance of Rs. 1.30 lac per unit is provided which is paid in three instalments. “Besides, assistance of Rs 12000 is provided for construction of Latrines under convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) (SBM-G) and 90-95 days of labour under MGNREGA amounting to Rs. 17007, is also admissible under the scheme thereby making the total amount of Rs. 1.59 Lacs per beneficiary. Sharma said there were a number of challenges faced by the Department in the implementation of the scheme in the State such as mapping each and every village with the concerned Panchayats, verification of Auto-Generated Beneficiaries List, Geo-Tagging of identified beneficiaries, and the Department worked on each and every challenge for the successful implementation of the important Scheme and the process is on for registration of more beneficiaries for sanction of houses as per Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 Data under the Scheme.
