IED Blast in Kashmir, 4 Policemen Martyred

Srinagar : Four personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police were martyred in a blast at Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Saturday. Official sources said that militants triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Sopore, about 55 km from here, where a general strike was observed on Saturday as on this day 57 persons were killed in alleged security force firing in 1993.
Four police personnel were killed, they said adding that the IED was planted beneath a shop. Several shops were also damaged in the blast, sound of which was heard in the entire town.
The three policeman killed in IED blast have been identified as ASI Irshad of Doda; Mohammad Amin of Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi of Sopore. However, the identification of fourth policeman is being ascertained.
Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for this IED blast. In an emailed statement, JeM said, “The Shaheed Afzal Guru squad carried out the attack.”(Agencies)
