Peter Pottinga, has been appointed as the General Manager of the soon to open InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping hotel.
Peter, a well-respected hospitality veteran, will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s pre-opening and opening phases.
A native of Holland, Pottinga began his career in hospitality in 1997 with Des Indes InterContinental, The Hague, and the InterContinental New Orleans working his way up from Night Manager to Rooms Division Manager. He quickly followed up that assignment with stints as Hotel Manager with the InterContinental, The George Edinburgh, and Crowne Plaza London Heathrow, respectively.
Prior to taking the helm of InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping, Pottinga has held General Manager positions with Holiday Inn London Heathrow Ariel, Crowne Plaza Bratislava, Crowne Plaza Hotel & Suites Landmark Shenzhen, Harbour Grand Kowloon, and InterContinental Budapest. For Pottinga, his appointment with the InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping marks a return to Thailand, the country of his childhood where he graduated high school from the International School Bangkok.
Travel has always been a passion for Pottinga, and he looks forward to living in another iconic and historic city.
Having traveled from New Orleans to Edinburgh, London to Shenzhen, Hong Kong to Budapest, he can’t wait to now share Thailand’s rose of the north with national and international travelers.
“As we work towards the opening in mid-2023, the team and I look forward with excitement to the awe-inspiring task of unveiling InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping to travelers,” said Peter Pottinga. “By blending the region’s tantalizing cuisine, the handiwork of local artisans, and northern Thai history with the well-loved hallmarks of the world’s first and largest international luxury hotel brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, we aim to create a guest experience that promotes cultural and artistic traditions of the Lanna people.”
InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping is located in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city, and a short drive from the international airport. This is a hotel created as a “living museum,” inspired by the time-honored Lanna culture and featuring the handiwork of local artisans, while offering a contemporary escape. Here, guests will find a quiet place at Wat Chang Kong, a timeless stupa located on the grounds; enjoy the best of art, craft, and music on the lawn; and savor northern Thailand’s unique cuisine.
