Data: 20.6 M Tourists Visited Mexico by Air


Last year, Mexico received 20.6 million international tourists by air, 46.3% more than in 2021 and 8.2% more than before the pandemic. Cancun airport accounted for 46% of arrivals.

In 2022, more than six out of every ten tourists who visited Mexico by air came from the United States. In total, the market brought 13 million tourists, or 27% more than in 2021 (10.24 million) and even surpassed the 10.51 million in 2019 (+23.7%).

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, detailed that the arrival of Canadian tourists increased by 249.4% compared to 2021, reaching 1.76 million. Despite the significant growth, it is still 23.8% below 2019 arrivals (2.31 million).

In the cumulative January-December period, Colombia remained the third largest source market for Mexico, with 858,840 tourists arriving by air (+88.8% compared to 2021) and surpassed the 602,832 tourists prior to the pandemic by 42.5%. Of the remaining nationalities, 4.98 million tourists were counted (+72.7% compared to 2021).

Cancun, Mexico City and Los Cabos airports received the highest number of international tourists: 15.87 million, 46.5% more than in 2021 and 8.2% more than in 2019.

Cancun airport received 9.49 million tourists (+47.7% than in 2021); Mexico City airport had 4.2 million (+56.7%) and Los Cabos airport received 2.17 million (+26.1%).
