Tobago Tourism makes appearance in New York

The Travel & Adventure Show has connected over 2.5 million travel enthusiasts, 15,000 unique travel advisors, and thousands of travel media from North America and the rest of the world in its 18 years of operation, influencing over US$6 billion in travel bookings.

Attracting visitors to destination Tobago from the United States of America is a top priority for the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) in 2023, which is why TTAL’s representatives jump-started the year with attendance to the New York Travel & Adventure Show on January 28 and 29, 2023.

The show exhibits some of the best destinations in the Caribbean region and beyond, and featured destination Tobago for the first time this year as the ultimate travel destination to experience a beyond-ordinary holiday.

Alicia Edwards, Executive Chairman of TTAL said: “As TTAL aims to gain a foothold in the USA market, it is imperative that our island’s offerings be promoted to relevant partners including potential tourists, travel agents, and travel media. The New York Travel & Adventure Show gave us the opportunity for our destination representatives at FINN Partners Travel to highlight all the experiences Tobago has to offer to the captive audience at this event – thousands of travel and adventure enthusiasts who share the same passion for everything our unspoilt destination has to offer.”

TTAL’s participation at this event sought to build consumer and trade awareness of Tobago as a prospective year-round destination for travelers who are looking to relax, unwind and discover a pristine, untouched island filled with some of the best cuisines in the Caribbean, as well as for travelers looking for exciting outdoor adventures such as diving, snorkeling, hiking, and more.

Virginia Sheridan, Managing Partner at FINN Partners Travel said: “It was a great pleasure, as TTAL’s Public Relations Agency in the United States, to attend the Travel & Adventure Show in New York City. By the steady stream of the ‘travel curious’, it is evident that travel is back with significant pent-up demand, especially for authentic beach destinations that offer relaxation, pristine beaches, tropical and fresh cuisine and a warm and welcoming community. The TTAL booth also attracted many people from Trinidad and Tobago who were excited to see the Tobago booth and hear how they are looking forward to their next trip home. This love of country verifies that diaspora marketing has value to increasing Tobago’s visitor numbers.”

TTAL’s representatives were also able to build a database of key travel partners in the US travel market to generate follow up leads and speak directly with travel agents who can work with Tobago to promote packages to their clients. As a result of TTAL’s attendance, just under 100 travel agents and lifestyle influencers expressed interest in working with destination Tobago, as evident by the multiple travel and lifestyle influencers who expressed their interest for partnerships in 2023.

The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited will continue expanding their efforts to tap into the USA travel market – including the diaspora traveller market – with relevant trade partnerships, strategic consumer outreach, and participation in key events such as the New York Travel & Adventure Show.
