A Guide to Making The Most of Your Family Vacation

Most families look forward to vacations together.

Everyone wants a trip like those in the movies, where everyone has fun and gets along, but reality can be different. Being stuck in a house, resort, or cruise ship with a family around the clock can be a little stressful. Keep reading for tips on making your vacation one that the whole family will love and remember for years to come.

Choose the Right Destination

Choosing the right destination for the whole family is the first key to a great vacation. If there are children, look for a location that provides family-friendly amenities. The beach, all-inclusive resorts, or towns with lots of activities are good choices. Destin rentals offer boat rentals around the year for families to spend time together while having fun.

Consider dividing responsibilities and planning between all the people going on vacation, kids included. Everyone will feel needed, and the planning will be less stressful. Children enjoy being able to choose a place to eat or a fun activity for the group.

It’s best to start planning for six to eight months. This gives enough time to get the best rates and book tickets while they are still available. Consider choosing a new destination based on the sights and activities the family has enjoyed in the past. For example, if your family loves the beach, consider visiting a new beach instead of the same one each year.

Families who like to see new things may enjoy choosing a location with two to three destinations close together. This allows for lots of new activities and sightseeing, especially if the destination is far from home. For example, if the family wants to visit France, consider adding Spain and Italy to the trip as well.

Travel During Off-Peak Season

If possible, schedule the vacation outside of peak season. During peak season, the best sites are crowded and some activities are unavailable. Choosing a date that is too far away from the optimal traveling time may also be problematic. Don’t travel during a location’s rainy season and expect sunny weather for the beach. The best time to travel is one to two months before or after the peak season.

Length of Stay

The ideal vacation seems to be six to eight days. Trips shorter than six days may feel too short since the first and last days are for traveling. Vacations longer than eight days may start to be boring. Also, choose travel dates to allow a one-day buffer at home when the family returns. This will make re-entry into real life a little bit easier.

Travel Agent

Vacation planning can be challenging. Many families cancel vacations because it is just too hard to plan them. Consider working with a travel agent who knows the best locations, resorts, and activities for a family. A travel agent will take care of the details so the family members can spend more time unpacking, shopping, and relaxing later. It also lets the family relax and worry less.

Plan Lots of Activities

When people don’t schedule their time, they tend to waste it. People who plan their free time are usually happier with their trip. Studies show that scheduling lots of fun activities is better than scheduling only one big day. Frequency beats intensity.

While it is challenging to plan the perfect vacation, it is possible to create an outstanding vacation. Utilize the above tips to keep the family busy, happy, and relaxed.
