Manipulation about the most beautiful beaches in the United States

Taking photos of a beach and uploading pictures to Instagram is a flawed way to decide on what the most beautiful beach is.

A master of manipulation made beautiful Sunset Beach on the North Shore on the Hawaii Island of Oahu number 10, but La Jolla Cove in California number one.

Why is this strange?

La Jolla Cove is now voted to be the most beautiful beach in the United States according to Instagram hashtags. It received 366,068 tags.

The number 10 beach, Sunset Beach on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, received 2,387,506 hashtags but only made it to number 10.

The reason is the criteria used in the Florida Rental research.

It’s not about who received the most significant number of hashtags. It’s about the length of the beach in relation to hashtags.

Sunset Beach is 5,777 meters long (almost 6 km), and LaJolla Cove is 86 meters long.

The most hashtags received actually from South Beach, Florida, with 8.027,955. South Beach is 3,942 meters long.

La Jolla Cove is a small cove with a beach surrounded by cliffs in La Jolla, San Diego, California. Point La Jolla forms the south side of the cove. The area is protected as part of a marine reserve and is popular with snorkelers, swimmers, and scuba divers.

South Beach is known for its beaches and the glamorous scene around its happening nightspots and celebrity-chef eateries. Chain stores and indie fashion shops line the pedestrian shopping strip of Lincoln Road Mall. On Ocean Drive, known for its well-preserved art deco architecture, outdoor cafes offer a ringside view of the scene. Museums include the Wolfsonian-FIU, which has a collection of modern art and objects.

Sunset Beach is on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii and is known for big-wave surfing during the winter season. The original Hawaiian name for this place is Paumalū.

According to local documentation, Sunset Beach is only a 2-mile beach stretch. If considered, this would change the rating even for this study.

Venice Beach is fourth on the list, with the Los Angeles beach having a hashtags per meter score of 899. There are 4,341,671 hashtagged posts for the beach on Instagram, with a length of 4,828 meters. It’s the most popular tourist attraction in Los Angeles and the second most in Southern California, behind only Disneyland.

Based on length and hashtag, the result of this research concludes the 10 nicest beaches in the United States. Only beaches in Hawaii, California, and Florida made it to the list. Tourism speaks out because these three states are competing with visitors numbers and popularities. Hidden gems in other states of course would not make it according to the metrics in this study meant to promote vacation rentals.

  1. La Jolla Cove, California
  2. South Beach, Florida
  3. Laguna Beach, California
  4. Venice Beach, California
  5. Sandy Beach, Hawaii
  6. West Palm Beach, California
  7. Manhattan Beach, California
  8. Hermosa Beach, California
  9. Sunset Beach, Hawaii
  10. Delray Beach, Florida

Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for Florida Rentals, the company commissioning the research says: “With only three states featuring in the top ten, it’s clear which states are the top choices for beachgoers in the US. You’d have to go as far as 15th in the study to find Virginia Beach, the highest-ranking entry not in California, Florida, or Hawaii. It’s also fascinating to see how some tiny beaches can garner such strong popularity, especially regarding social media.”
