Türkiye to Host Major International Conferences in 2023 and 2024

A growing hub for major international business, Türkiye is poised to host a series of high-profile conferences throughout 2023 and 2024, including the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) Sustainable Tourism Conference, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) Global Conference, the EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference, the Routes World 2023 global airline route development forum and more.

Scheduled to take place in Antalya on the Turkish Riviera from May 9-12, 2023, the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Conference will bring together more than 350 local and international tourism stakeholders involved in the development and promotion of sustainable travel and tourism, including representatives from the public sector, hotels, tour operators, academics, development agencies and NGOs. Following the pioneering signing of a cooperation agreement between Türkiye and the GSTC in early 2022, which accelerated the country’s global sustainability practices and established a first-of-its-kind National Sustainable Tourism Program, the four-day Sustainable Tourism Conference in Antalya will include training, interactive panels and workshops, meetings and social events.

From October 11-13, 2023, the EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference, the premier international meeting for cycling tourism, will be held in Izmir on the Aegean Coast of Türkiye, the first city in Türkiye to host the conference. Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) and the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), in cooperation with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the 2023 EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference will focus on the theme of “Cycling: A New Perspective on Heritage,” featuring a series of panels and workshops on the future of cycling tourism, including its role in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Attendees will also cycle parts of the EuroVelo 8 – Mediterranean Route, which starts in Spain and runs through 11 countries, including Türkiye, passing through extraordinary spots in and around Izmir, including the Izmir Bird Paradise, Urla, Alacati and the ancient cities of Pergamon and Ephesus, both UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites.

Also in October 2023, the 28th Routes World conference will bring more than 3,000 airline, airport and aviation stakeholders from around the world to Istanbul for a three-day conference at the award-winning İGA – Istanbul Airport from October 15-17. As the world’s largest route development conference, Routes World will help showcase İGA – Istanbul Airport as “Türkiye’s gateway to the world” (connecting to more than 60 capital cities within a four-hour flight) and is in line with the airport’s strategy to reach more than 100 million passengers by the year 2026.

The leading association of incentive tourism (with more than 2,500 members in 90 countries), SITE will host its 2024 Global Conference in Istanbul from February 26-29, 2024, the first time the event has taken place in Türkiye. More than 500 industry professionals will attend the three-day B2B conference, which will connect participants with incentive tourism experts from around the world and introduce the industry to Türkiye as a leading incentive travel destination.

And finally, from April 2-5, 2024, Istanbul will be the host city of the RSVP Conference, the meeting platform for the world’s leading luxury wedding planners. The event, held biannually since 2018, brought 250 participants from 30 countries to Madrid this year, where Türkiye was recognized with the “Favourite Destination” award at the first-ever RSVP Global Awards. A magnet for destination weddings, Türkiye boasts such picturesque spots for tying the knot as Istanbul, Cappadocia, Bodrum, Antalya, Göcek, Çeşme and Fethiye.
