Number of cruise passengers visited Spain jumped


The number of cruise passengers that transited through Spanish ports doubled in the first four months of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 2.7 million. Almost 500 cruise ships called at Spanish ports in April.

Spanish ports have seen total passenger traffic of over 6.1 million users this year, including 4.74 million on regular lines and 1.4 million on cruise ships.

In monthly figures, total passenger traffic (regular and cruise passengers) exceeded 2.9 million last April, compared to 2.2 million the previous year. Of these, 2 million traveled on traditional means of transport, and another 924,087 were cruise passengers.

According to the port traffic summary, 499 cruise ships arrived in Spanish ports in April, bringing the total figure for the year thus far to 1,231. Most of them ended up in Barcelona (79), Las Palmas (72), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (69), and the Balearic Islands (58).

Of the nearly one million cruise passengers who arrived at Spanish ports in April, the majority did so in the port of Barcelona (264,371), Las Palmas (148,638), the Balearic Islands (135,516), and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (109,092).

The data show that the Port of Barcelona has doubled the number of cruise passengers monthly and annually. For example, in April 2022, 131,787 cruise passengers arrived at the Barcelona terminals, whereas this year, the figure was 264,371 (+100.6% more). The statistics have also doubled in the first four-month period, rising from 225,046 registered in April 2022 to 554,766, an increase of 146.5%.
