In 2003, Vicky Kaushal’s father faced a diagnosis of stomach cancer. However, he courageously battled against this life-threatening illness and emerged as a survivor. In a recent interview, Sham Kaushal, Vicky’s father, openly shared his remarkable journey, which is truly captivating. Reflecting on his experience, Sham revealed that doctors had given him a grim prognosis, stating that he wouldn’t survive. Despite the odds stacked against him, Sham not only made a remarkable recovery but also described those days as some of the best in his life. He mentioned that his sons, Vicky and actor Sunny Kaushal, were teenagers when he faced his health crisis.

Sham told Rajshri Unplugged, “As soon as I got back, there were a lot of complications in my stomach. Some time in October, I had to get admitted in Nanavati Hospital. The doctors said that I won’t survive.” Sham further added, “I accepted the fact that I won’t survive, so I prayed to God that I am not unhappy, I am 48. I started from nothing and I have achieved a lot. You take me away but if you are going to save me, then don’t make me a weak person. I can’t live like a weak person.”

Sham further mentioned that he underwent surgical procedures at the hospital and was subsequently discharged. Over time, he made a gradual recovery. He said, “After they said I won’t survive, I saw the best days of my life. I won all the awards after 2003. My best films came after that. My kids became successful after that.”

During a earlier interview with The Times of India, Sham had revealed that he attempted to return the signing amount for Anurag Kashyap’s film Black Friday as he was originally slated to be the action director. However, Anurag Kashyap chose to wait for Sham’s recovery. In that same interview, Sham candidly admitted that he contemplated ending his life as he felt there was no hope for his recuperation. He said, “I thought there’s no chance of me surviving. I had even decided that I would end my life by jumping off the third floor because I couldn’t live like that.”

For those not in the know, Sham Kaushal, Vicky Kaushal’s father, is a renowned action director in the film industry. His impressive body of work includes notable films such as Dangal, Bajirao Mastani, and many others. Starting his career as a stunt performer in the late 1970s, Sham primarily collaborated with Veeru Devgan, a highly esteemed action director during that era.
