Tanzania Launches 7th Swahili International Tourism Expo


Two-day expo will take place from October 6 to October 8 at the famous Mlimani City grounds in Tanzania’s commercial capital

This week, Tanzania Tourist Board has officially launched the seventh Edition of the premier Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE) to be staged in Tanzania’s commercial city of Dar-es-Salaam early in October of this year.

Branded with “Responsible Tourism for Inclusive Growth”, the two-day expo will take place from October 6 to October 8 at the famous Mlimani City grounds in Tanzania’s commercial capital.

Tanzania Tourist Board’s Director General Mr. Damas Mfugale said this week that the event will focus on inbound and outbound travel to and within Africa, aiming to draw tourism and travel professional from all corners of the world.

The event’s goal is to promote Tanzania’s tourism to international markets and facilitate linking of companies based in Tanzania, Eastern and Central Africa with tourism companies from other parts of the world.

The exhibition will be styled as a business networking event for the tourism industry, with components of social dimensions to attract local people, families and experts during the weekend.

Mr. Mfugale said that about 200 exhibitors are expected to participate the event as well as international 150 hosted buyers from key and leading tourist markets mostly from the United States of America (USA), Germany, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Italy.

Other hosted buyers and exhibitors are expected from Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Spain, Poland, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada, Turkey, Kenya, Russia, Czech Republic and China, among other nations.

Established in 2014, the Swahili International Tourism Expo had grown from 40 exhibitors to 170 last year, while the number of international buyers has increased to 333 from the initial 24 when established eight years ago.

The forthcoming tourism expo is part of Tanzania’s tourism development under the government’s adopted Five Year Development Plan (FYDP) Three spanning from 2021 to 2025 of which Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) has been placed to be a new tourist product in Tanzania.

Under its 1999 Tourism Policy, Tanzania plans to attract five million tourists who would inject about six billion US dollars (U$ 6 billion) by the year 2025, Mr. Mfugale said.

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan had guided then launched the Royal Tour documentary will showcase various tourism, investments, arts and cultural attractions available and seen in Tanzania, much to the delight of key players in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Besides taking advantage of the networking and business and learning opportunities during the exhibition, Tanzania Tourist Board is looking to attract participants to visit leading wildlife parks and other tourist-attractive sites including Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, Selous Game Reserve and the island of Zanzibar.

The Expo will also attract FAM trips to key and leading wildlife parks including Tarangire, Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mkomazi, Nyerere, Saanane, Ngorongoro and ancient ruins in Kilwa and Zanzibar.

Tanzania has been nominated to compete for more than 30 world tourism awards organized by the World Travel Awards (WTA). Leading tourist attractions set for WTA competition are the Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and the Zanzibar Island.
