Indigo Low-Cost Airline Swoops in to Italy

IndiGo, India low-cost airline, has drawn up an ambitious development plan supported by data which precisely give the Indian mainland the fastest-growing market for the next 20 years.

News of a maxi order to Airbus for 500 aircraft including 320neos and A321neos arrived from the Paris Air Show 2023. Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers (head of KLM for years) announced the intercontinental expansion.

Starting from the fleet, the IndiGo project is gigantic as it has already closed an order with Airbus for 480 aircraft to be delivered by 2030 and has now just completed this new order for 500 more aircraft.

It is not yet clear how many  A320neos there will be or how many A321neos. For intercontinental flights, the A321 XLRs has been ordered, and a further agreement for A330s or Boeing 787 Dreamliners may be in the pipeline.

With the A321Xlr, IndiGo aims not only at a network of connections with southeast Asia and Africa but also with Europe, including Italy. Per Elbers, Indigo’s overseas expansion plan, will see new direct connections to Asia and Africa.
