Members of the Volusia County Council, the leadership team at Daytona Beach International Airport and representatives with Avelo Airlines celebrated the start this week of two new, nonstop flights to/from New Haven, CT and Wilmington, DE.
On June 22, the airport hosted a ribbon cutting for the inaugural flight from New Haven followed by a welcome reception and cake for the arriving passengers. On June 23, passengers arriving on the flight from Wilmington received a warm welcome, complete with goodie bags and cake. The airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) crew welcomed both flights with a traditional water salute.
In a news release, Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said the airline is excited to begin service to Daytona Beach.
“Daytona Beach – it’s officially time to say hello to Avelo! We’re excited to begin service to Southern Connecticut and Philadelphia, bringing Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability, and caring service to Daytona Beach,” said Levy. “These routes also offer Connecticut and Philly-area Customers with easy hometown airport access to everything Daytona has to offer just in time for summer.”
During ceremony prior to the flight arrival, Airport Director Karen Feaster thanked the airport and airline implementation team for all the work leading up to inaugural day and highlighted the positive economic boost of two new flights.
“The economic impact of these two new weekly Avelo fights is estimated at more than $5 million annually,” said Feaster. We are hopeful these two new flights are just the beginning of expanded service options here and we are looking forward to a great partnership with Avelo.”
