Jammu : An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, forcing people to rush out of their homes. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake having epicenter 35 km south of Jarm in Afghanistan jolted parts of Pakistan and north India at 12:37 pm Indian time.
“Tremors were felt at around 1240 hours as low intensity quake rocked the parts of the state,” said an official. Meanwhile people rushed out of their houses in panic.
“So far no major damage, injury or any loss of life has been reported from anywhere but details are awaited,” he added. The quake struck at a depth of 191 kilometres, it said.
The epicentre was located 265km northeast of the Afghan capital, Kabul and 120km west of Pakistan’s Chitral in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.(Agencies)
